Jeepneys are so common on the roads that Filipinos cannot think of anything that could easily replace them. Buses are not as quick and they do not interweave in routes as much as the Jeepneys do.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: A overloaded jeepney carrying 33 passengers fell to its side on a sharp curve in barangay Pias, which resulted to the death of three female passengers.
The accident happened near a portion of the road which was the site of a landslide during Typhoon Luis.
Senior Inspector Cirilo Butigan, city police deputy, told The Manila Times the jeep, which was driven and operated by Eugene Marquez, was traveling fast prior to the accident.
“The jeep was fully loaded, when it could only accommodate 23 seat-capacity, they even get passengers to sit on the roof,” Butigan said

MANILA — One man died while 6 others were injured when a train rammed a passenger jeepney in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday afternoon, police said.
Reynaldo Macapagal, 56, a cigarette vendor, was declared dead at a hospital. He suffered head and leg injuries.
According to his son, Macapagal hitched a ride on the jeepney, and was on his way to Avenida when the incident occurred.
Six other passengers were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The jeepney driver was identified as Ronald Valdez, 39.
Initial investigation showed that a railway crossing signal warned vehicles that a train was approaching, but the jeepney still crossed the road.
Authorities said they also received reports that the jeepney collided with a tricycle prior to the incident.
The driver, who was also injured, reeked of alcohol when he was brought to the hospital, police said.

A man died while six others were hurt after a passenger jeepney they were riding was struck by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday afternoon.
Reynaldo Macapagal, 56, a cigarette vendor, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ospital ng Sampaloc where six other passengers were rushed for treatment.
Of the injured, two were reported in critical condition.
Paul de Quiros, PNR spokesperson, told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview that the jeepney tried to go past the rail crossing while a train was approaching to its direction along the corner of G. Tuazon and Algeciras streets.
De Quiros said he could not provide further details as of the moment but emphasized that the PNR has the right of way during the incident.
